VIDEO: BERNO drops ‘EBT’ choreography
“We outside or nah?”
The first line of BERNO’s “EBT (Energy Be Terrific)” activates anyone within earshot, and the absolute vibe of the record has bolstered mere snippets shared on social media. Now, BERNO has doubled down on the single’s influence, dropping choreography that encompasses the spirit of “Energy Be Terrific.” In an exclusive interview, BERNO discussed his vision for the song and his career.
LIFE ENTERTAINMENT: What was the concept behind the “EBT” choreography?
BERNO: The concept idea behind the choreography was something inspired heavily by the song “EBT (ENERGY BE TERRIFIC).” It had to be steps that aren’t hard to memorize but make you feel like you have the power of a superhero while having fun.
LE: Who designed the choreography?
BERNO: The choreography was designed by Akaya, a musician and choreographer whom I met through a chance encounter with her A&R, Meech, while I was promoting my second single, “FUNNY.” The irony. He reached out to me to inquire about doing a fitting style interview (my signature videos) for his artist, and I asked if she could create the choreography for my track, and then boom.
LE: The “EBT” choreo is very TikTok-ready. Did those creators influence your process?
BERNO: I would have to give full credit to my choreographer, Akaya, but I can definitely assume that TikTok was a heavy influence because many of those moves can be found on TikTok and the black culture from various eras of dance. I mean, we create the pulse of everything creative so it’s expected.
LE: You’ve been giving impromptu performances of “EBT” across NYC. What has been the response so far?
BERNO: Yes, this time around I want to take full control of how much visibility the track gets through dance because dancing is what makes people get more into a song… especially tracks with powerful lyrics and heavy beats. The dance sequences make people more intrigued and hyped. People also seem to like it by the comments and engagement on my socials. Without the dancing, it would be difficult for me to convey the power, strength and possible hit potential of my song.
LE: Your grind and energy are contagious. What keeps you motivated?
BERNO: Thank you. I really want to be on a main stage and since I’m not performing at nightclubs YET, I can definitely see it. I decided to film myself dancing at various locations to show people that “EBT (ENERGY BE TERRIFIC)” is a song that the world needs to know. It also was played by a DJ homie of mine and the people were really rocking to it. That alone let me know I have something special because the people decide if your song is hot. Not you.
LE: What is next for BERNO?
BERNO: To piggy back from the last question, I definitely want to perform at various nightclubs and/or open for music artists in and around the New York City area. I would also love to do collaborations with known dancers and add more of the song in my fitting style interviews with other people and more celebrities, and have them participate in the dance challenge. I see the song going far and by my efforts that will definitely happen.
