Eleni’s New York Cookies: Delicious, nut-free treats
Cookies are more than just cookies, especially dealing with allergies. One can taste delicious, nut-free cookies by Eleni’s New York Cookies, in business for over 20 years. They have many fans like Oprah, Kerry Washington, Gwen Stefani, and many more.
Many suffer from year-round allergies, and if nuts, fruits, vegetables and others are not fully clean, there may be a reaction. Eleni’s is a supporter of Food Allergy Research & Education Fundraiser (F.A.R.E.) events, where we had the golden opportunity to try their tasty cookies.
Various celebrities and television programs have enjoyed their fine products— Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones welcomed their wedding party guests with New York City-themed iced sugar cookies from Eleni’s. Their custom-decorated, fashion-inspired cookies also shared the spotlight with designer bags and shoes as the season’s most fashionable cookie couture in Bergdorf and Neiman Marcus holiday catalogs. The company also won the crème de la crème Mobius Award for package design in the snack foods category for the crisp cookie collection’s gingham packaging.
Eleni’s and HBO Television celebrated the iconic NYC series “Sex and the City” with a cookie collection featuring Manolos, Cosmos, and all things Carrie Bradshaw. Eleni’s followed up with themed dessert sets for “The Sopranos,” “True Blood,” and “Game of Thrones.“
Eleni spent her first five years in New York working for the venerable Time, Inc., where she got her first taste of the media business. Her close friend Kate Spade suggested she start a catering business.
Eleni joined several other woman-owned bakeries in the first wave of businesses to occupy the former factory of the Nabisco Company, a huge raw space that eventually became Manhattan’s booming Chelsea Market. The market became occupied by artisan bakeries, showing how they manufacture their signature products to an audience of New York neighbors and foodies who started trekking in from near and far for a glimpse.
Eleni focuses on her soft bake cookies: the Oatmeal, Chocolate Chunk, Chocolate Neat (think Scotch Neat), Lemon Poppy Seed, Macaroon and Snickerdoodle. More about the company and their fine products can be found at elenis.com.
