Karine Hannah talks ‘Guilty Pleasures’ Nov. 1 show
Cash Money singer Karine Hannah will bring her critically-acclaimed show, “Guilty Pleasures,” to New York City’s Feinstein’s/54 Below on Nov. 1. The performance will feature Hannah singing classics such as Barry Manilow’s “Could This Be the Magic” and Mister Mister’s “Broken Wings,” along with her original material. Accompanied by pianist Clifford Carter, and percussionist and background vocalist Daniel Sadownick, Hannah will also perform duets with singers Keith Anthony Fluitt and John James. “Guilty Pleasures” attendees are certainly in store for a treat. Ahead of the event, the “Burning Up” singer spoke to Life Entertainment about her song choices and appreciation for her fans.
LIFE ENTERTAINMENT: Do you find that there’s a common thread or a theme in the cover songs that you choose?
KARINE HANNAH: Yes; the common thread is that they’re all [songs by male singers]. They’re all songs from the ’70s and the ’80s and one song from the ’90s. But I’m also going to feature a new single. We’re deciding on which single we want to release first and which single we want to use for that night.
LE: Are there any other artists that you would like to collaborate with?
KH: There’s a lot of artists… There is one artist from the UK– he’s a great singer-songwriter named James Morrison. He’s really amazing. He’s a soulful singer-songwriter. I would love to do a duet with him. In the meantime, in this show, I have two amazing singers that I’m working with. I’m doing duets with John James and Keith Anthony Fluitt, and both of them tour with everyone under the sun.
LE: Is a show in Vegas still the goal or has that direction changed?
KH: That is something that takes years of planning to get there and to get to that point. We’re still talking and negotiating and that is definitely still in play, something that will happen in the future definitely.
LE: Do you have a message for your fans?
KH: Thank you for your support. The ones that are my hardcore fans have stuck with me from the moment that I got signed to Cash Money. I have some friends from before Cash Money, and I just want to say that they should come to this next show because this show is a vocal powerhouse show. It’s just incredible. There’s 38 songs packed in like an hour and 15 minutes.
That’s the name of the game nowadays, to be out performing as much as you can. Recordings are great and having singles and having albums is great, but nowadays, that’s where it’s at– live performance. I’m looking to go on the road sometime in the winter through the spring and summer.
