Vigilante Coffee, Maryland Coffee Roaster

 Vigilante Coffee, Maryland Coffee Roaster

We had the golden opportunity to try Vigilante Coffee, a Maryland coffee roaster created in 2012, at the 2020 Coffee Expo at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

The company sources specialty coffee. Here, one can get a variety of coffee from different regions. Many would enjoy the Tin Lizzie Espresso Blend that is known for its heavy body, deep chocolate, and caramel tones.

The company has fine varietals from Africa, like the Ethiopia Natty Cheffe that has a floral taste with blueberry, pecan, and brown sugar. The Columbia Caturra varietal is an old growth variety with a really sweet and chocolate forward profile. La Caturrita is a unique blend, created from several small-scale producers located in Huila and Tolima. This coffee unites the best lots of their farm partners, made up mostly of small peaberries and smaller grading size beans. Kerinci Indonesia has touch of cacao nibs, dark chocolate and prune.

The Peruvian coffee “Acosta” offers notes of peach, caramel, and a vibrant lingering aftertaste. This particular coffee won 4th place in the Amazonas State Competition.

They converted an old liquor store into the University of Maryland’s first specialty coffee shop in 2018, and established its first permanent Roastery & Cafe in Hyattsville, MD. Vigilante Coffee also finished in 5th place at the United States Roaster Championship in Seattle. More about the company and their fine coffee can be found at vigilantecoffee.com.
